A few years ago my partner and I had the opportunity to brainstorm and execute the agency's holiday card and charitable gift.

As rescue dog proponents, so we set out to help Austin Pets Alive and gift them wish list items.

But sending them an impersonal check wasn't going to cut it. We wanted the agency to get involved.

We started by constructing a massive "tree" in the GSD&M atrium, displaying 600 of APA's wishlist items: fleece blankets to keep their shelter animals warm in outdoor kennels.

We used the tree as a motivational centerpiece, encouraging employees to donate additional wishlist items like food, litter, Kongs, etc. And they showed up.

We didn't stop there.

We did a photoshoot at the shelter so we could feature adoptable animals in a lovely physical agency card (can you say "trifold spot varnish"?) then created a microsite so people could check adoption status and donate more.

In the end, we donated several pickup trucks packed full of much needed items, helping animals who needed it.
